Camera Guard Blocks Hackers from the Webcam and Microphone on Your Mac

ProtectStar Inc. today is pleased to announce the release and immediate availabilty of Camera Guard Professional 2017, the company’s new safety software solution for macOS. Camera Guard Professional ensures that no hacker, spy or malware can observe you or listen in on you. With just one single click, not only the camera, but also the microphone will be completely protected.

The app brings back privacy at the work place and in the children’s room at home with a single click. It is an uncompromising, unprecedented solution, specifically protecting the webcam and microphone of iMacs and MacBooks.

When Camera Guard is installed, a single click is enough in order to secure the camera and microphone. This safety tool from then on reports all applications and processes that try to gain access to the camera and microphone. The user then decides if they wish to allow access to the eyes and ears of the Mac Computer. Or alternatively, not allow access. All accesses and warnings are protocolled in a log file.

The personal settings of the Camera Guard are also protected by a PIN number which is equipped with special hacker protection in order to prevent the software itself from being manipulated.

At the core of Camera Guard is the intelligent Deep Detective. This detective not only recognizes well known malware (for example the Backdoor.MAC.Eleanor, which specifically takes over the control of the integrated webcam), it also identifies attacks of previously unknown malware. Just like an alarm system or personal firewall, all attacks from hackers, spies and trojans are detected and blocked using heuristic methods. At the same time the software uses minimal system resources.

Camera Guard Professional 2017 offers protection of the microphone, the Deep Detective, protection against well-known and unknown access attempts, a protocol in a log file, password protection and a 24/7 support via email. The pro-version costs just $29.90 (USD). There is also a free version of Camera Guard available that offers protection of the webcam and safety information over accesses.

Review: Spectra – Camera Painting: Complete Paintings With Your iPhone’s Camera

There are a number of unique games available for iOS devices these days, endless runners, puzzle games, Pokemon, and more fill the screens of the devices around us. I was given the opportunity to try Spectra – Camera Painting, a new game that offers puzzle fans, and even Pokemon players, a unique challenge.

Review: Spectra - Camera Painting Complete Paintings With Your iPhone's Camera

Overview

The concept of Spectra – Camera Painting is simple. Select an image from the game’s library of 8 images, (you get 8 free, you can buy more later, if you’d like), and then point your iPhone’s camera at real life objects in the world around you to match the colors found in the images to completely “paint” the illustration.

While the concept is simple, finding just the right color to match the colors found in the image can be frustrating, yet entertaining. Any object around you is fair game for use in the game.

Point your camera at objects containing the color selected on screen, and when you match the color, you hear a click, and a check mark appears, marking that color as found. That piece of the image fills in on screen, and it’s onto another object to match a new color from the image. If you like, you can tap any on-screen color to select it as the color to search for.

The game also allows users of iOS devices that include a flash to use it as a flashlight, aiding in finding just the right color anywhere in any lighting condition. You can also pinch to zoom, to fill the lens with the correct color.

I found the game to be an enjoyable time passer, particularly when I was waiting in line, or sitting in my dentist’s office waiting for my appointment. I did get a few odd looks from those around me, but once I explained what I was doing, they seemed to accept it. (A few even asked me for the name of the game.)

While the free app only offers 8 illustrations to begin play with, it does offer 3 levels of challenge, so most players will get hours of fun from the first batch of images before needing to consider the in-app purchase of additional illustrations.

When it comes time to buy additional images, they are available in packs ranging in price from $0.99 to $3.99. Available Painting Packs include:

  • Abstract
  • Art Nouveau
  • Cakes
  • Cartoons
  • Cubist
  • Folk Art
  • Futurism
  • Graffiti
  • Impressionist
  • Natural World
  • People
  • Pets
  • Pointillist
  • Pop Art
  • Sport
  • Surrealist
  • Transport
  • Travel Art
  • Wildlife

I would like to see a feature that allows users to select images from their own camera rolls as the source image, but I could see how it might lead to frustration and complaints if the player selected a photo containing an overload of colors that would be difficult to match.

Verdict

Spectra – Camera Painting is an enjoyable game for the iPhone and iPad. I found it to be a great time waster in situations where I was waiting on someone or something. Plus, it makes a great way to unwind in the evening after work.

While I wish the app included more images, (without an in-app purchase), or allowed you to use your own images, the game offers enough playability (with three skill levels), that an occasional in-app purchase for more images really isn’t a big deal.

Rating: 4.5/5.0

Price: FREE – Available in the App Store. In-app purchases are available, ranging from $0.99 to $3.99, that allow players to purchases new images, in a number of categories, if they so desire. [GET THE GAME HERE]

Pros:

  • Unique color matching challenge
  • Easy to learn
  • Three levels of challenge

Cons:

  • I wish the game allowed players to use their own images

Use Your iPhone’s Camera to Paint a Picture

Renniksoft today is proud to announce the release and immediate availability of Spectra – Camera Painting 1.1, an important update to their innovative app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices that uses the device’s camera to help paint a picture. Users fill in the colors of a selected painting, drawing, cartoon, or other image by aiming their iPhone’s camera lens at the real-life objects found all around them. Once they find a color that matches the selected hue, that color fills in, and then it’s on to finding the next color.

spectra_screen

Spectra offers an unusual spin on the usual puzzle or color matching games. Colors are all around us in the real world, and Spectra uses them to complete a target illustration or work of art. Users can select an easy level, where the colors are limited, and easier to match, all the way up to an expert level, where the colors are tougher to get an exact match to.

Features include:
* Camera Painting: Match the colors in the surrounding area to the game’s image to the using the iPhone’s camera
* Users may test their skills with three levels of difficulty: Novice, Expert, and Master
* 8 free paintings are included – Buy hundreds more in a number of themes, from Abstract to Wildlife
* Use the iPhone’s built-in flash as a flashlight to illuminate colors to capture them in low-light situations
* A Pinch-to-zoom feature helps the camera capture the perfect color

“Color matching puzzles are a dime a dozen on the iPhone, so we decided to put our own unique twist on them,” says Renniksoft founder Clive Skinner. “By using the iPhone’s built-in camera for color matching, we feel that we’ve turned the genre on its head. Plus, it’s completely up to the player’s imagination as to what objects they’ll use to match the target colors. A player could select a vase, whatever is on their dinner plate, or even their cat’s fur to match a desired color! One of our users called the app, ‘Pokemon Go meets coloring books,’ and I’d have to agree that is the perfect way to describe the app!”

While the 8 free paintings that are included with the download of the app will offer hours of challenging fun, especially since players can replay each illustration on one of three different levels, the fun doesn’t have to end there. Players can also download new illustrations, images, paintings, and cartoons, all via the app’s convenient in app-purchase function. That means the fun never has to end. Additional Painting Packs are available via in-app purchase, and include:

* Abstract
* Art Nouveau
* Cakes
* Cartoons
* Cubist
* Folk Art
* Futurism
* Graffiti
* Impressionist
* Natural World
* People
* Pets
* Pointillist
* Pop Art
* Sport
* Surrealist
* Transport
* Travel Art
* Wildlife

“Players are going to love Spectra, and we can’t wait to see what they’ll point their cameras at to match the colors of the images in the game,” continues Skinner. “Although we do hope they’ll explain to everyone around them why they’re pointing their iPhone’s camera all around the room. Heck, everyone else might want to download Spectra, and join in the fun too!”

Spectra – Camera Painting 1.1 is free and is available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Games category. Convenient in-app purchases are available for $0.99 to $3.99 USD (or an equivalent amount in other currencies) to add additional painting packs for even more fun.

Save 30% on Camera Guard’s Secure Protection for the Mac’s Webcam & Mic

Miami, Florida – In celebration of the recent release of the new macOS Sierra operating system, ProtectStar today is very pleased to announce a special, one-week only 30% discount on Camera Guard Professional for Mac 2016. The ingenious macOS security solution protects any Mac’s iSight camera, webcam, and microphone from being accessed by hackers, spyware or malware. With just a few clicks of the mouse, Camera Guard Professional stays alert for, and completely blocks, any applications or processes that attempt to access the camera or microphone of any Mac computer.

To celebrate the release of macOS Sierra, ProtectStar has announced a special one-week only 30% discount off of the normal $29.90 (USD) price of Camera Guard Professional 2016, making it just $20.93 for one week only. When ordering the app from the ProtectStar website, users merely need to enter the code: “macos-sierra” at checkout to receive the 30% discount.

Illegal monitoring of webcams and microphones on computers used for both personal and business use is on the rise, and shows no signs of slowing down. Until recently, the only response Mac users had was to place a piece of tape over the webcam and microphone of the computer, which is at best, an inelegant solution.

“Computer users no longer have to resort to pieces of black electrical tape to protect their privacy,” says Chris Bohn, CEO of ProtectStar. “With just a few clicks, Camera Guard Professional quickly and efficiently blocks outside access to the Mac’s camera and microphone, ensuring users are protected from prying eyes. Plus, the one-week-only 30% discount makes it more economical and convenient than ever to protect your family’s privacy.”

With the release of macOS Sierra, Apple has brought their virtual voice-based assistant to the desktop, again increasing the possibility that Mac users could possibly be listened in on via their computers. Camera Guard Professional can also prevent Siri from using a Mac’s mic, once again enhancing Mac users’ security.

Features:
* Web camera protection
* Pop-Up notifications regarding security breaches
* Logfile protocol
* Microphone protection. (Even Siri)
* Deep Detective(TM)
* Protection against known and unknown attack attempts
* Passcode protection
* 24/7 Support by e-Mail

Camera Guard Professional offers an added layer of protection for Mac users via its Personal Identification Number (PIN) system, which allows anyone to create a four-digit PIN to protect the customized security settings they create for their Mac. Once a PIN has been created and entered, any changes to the settings of the app require the entry of the PIN, making it impossible for rogue users or applications to change the level of protection offered by Camera Guard.

The app’s exclusive Deep Detective feature offers intelligent protection against all attempted accesses to a protected machine. Deep Detective actively protects the system from hackers, spyware and trojans by monitoring any attempted access to a Mac’s camera or microphone, and alerts users to any attacks, both known and unknown, using its exclusive modern heuristic methods.

Camera Guard Professional works well alongside any anti-virus or firewall solutions users may already have in place, making it an ideal addition to any Mac user’s security arsenal. The app offers a fast and elegant protection solution, and is designed to make a minimal impact on any Mac’s system resources, using only a small amount of available processor, memory and disk resources.

Device Requirements:
* Mac OS X 10.11 or higher (Supports macOS Sierra)
* 64-bit processor
* 30 MB
* Internet connection for activation and updates

Pricing and Availability:
Camera Guard Professional 2016 is $29.90 USD (or an equivalent amount in other currencies), and is available through the ProtectStar website. For the next seven days, ProtectStar is offering a 30% discount on the purchase of Camera Guard Professional 2016, when customers enter the code: “macos-sierra” at checkout. The Pro version offers monitoring and protection of the webcam and microphone, Deep Detective, protection against both well-known and unknown access attempts, a protocol in a log file, password protection and 24/7 support via email. There is also a free version of Camera Guard available that offers protection of the webcam and safety information over accesses.
