Add Random Numbers to Image Names With LinkOptimizer for InDesign Now

LinkOptimizer 5.3.8 from Zevrix Solutions is a feature update to company’s image processing automation solution for Adobe InDesign. inkOptimizer automates complex image manipulation tasks and helps users reduce the size of InDesign links, save prepress costs, and easily repurpose InDesign documents for web and mobile devices.

The new version introduces the Random Number variable token for the optimized image name with the option to specify the number of digits for each random number. The new token is indispensable for the users who need to apply a unique identifier to each image link without breaking their links to InDesign. In addition, the update fixes an issue in which some sharpening and layer merge settings were not honored under some rare conditions when processing multiple files.

LinkOptimizer works automatically with Photoshop to eliminate the excess image data of InDesign links, perform essential image adjustments and convert image formats. For example, with just a click of a button users can:

* Optimize dozens of InDesign files
* Scale and crop images to match their dimensions in InDesign
* Change their resolution to 300 dpi
* Convert RGB images to CMYK
* Resave JPEGs as TIFF
* Run a Photoshop action on each image

LinkOptimizer can be purchased from the Zevrix website for $259.95 USD (Lite version: $179.95) as well as from Adobe Exchange and authorized resellers. A free trial is also available for download. The update is free for LinkOptimizer 5.x users and $130 to upgrade from previous versions. LinkOptimizer requires macOS 10.8-10.15 and Adobe InDesign / Photoshop CS5-CC 2019.

New, Innovative Tables Feature Now Available in Mellel 4.2

The leading word processor for Mac OS and iPad, Mellel 4.2, now includes a completely re-written and innovative tables feature. Using styles, tables in Mellel now offer advanced features alongside the ability to maintain consistency in table design throughout the manuscript and from one document to the other.

The new table feature was completely re-written to suit the changing needs of users. Mellel, a long time favorite among writers of long-documents, who need to maintain consistency throughout the document and across documents, now offers an innovative Table Styles feature. This feature allows users to set every table option within a style, changes to which will be applied to every table using this style. Furthermore, templates within the style allow for adding text, and setting the size and positioning of variants to the basic style.

Tables now support table headers and footers (and leading and trailing columns), repeating headers, color alternation, outer padding, corner radius, smart vertical alignment, and much more.

Formulas can be entered to any cell, calculating sum, average, standard deviation, and more, and can mix within the same cell with text and other formulas – which is the complete opposite of the “spreadsheet as a table” concept.

Positioning and resizing options allow users to resize a table easily, with the columns and rows being resized proportionally. Users can also set the table width proportionally, so it can change dynamically when the width available to it changes. You can also position a table anyway you like (at centre, right or plainly 15% from the left).

Finally, there are numerous but-of-course features, allowing users to add columns and rows easily, set the width of columns and rows in exact measurements, equalise width with a click, and much more.

AI-powered photo color matching tool comes to Pixelmator Pro

The Pixelmator Team today released an update to Pixelmator Pro, adding a new Core ML-powered feature that intelligently matches the colors of different photos or objects using a machine learning algorithm trained on millions of professional photos. The update also brings a new Free Transform feature to freely resize, distort, and transform layers, and includes a number of additional improvements and fixes.

The new ML Match Colors feature lets anyone match the look of one photo to another in an instant. And it couldn’t be simpler to use. To match the style of a photo, users simply drag and drop images onto the Color Adjustments pane. ML Match Colors then analyzes the contents of both the source and target photo to identify any objects, detects their colors and lighting, and applies a range of color adjustments to the target photo. 37 individual adjustments in total, such as Brightness, Shadows, Highlights, White Balance, and Selective Color, are used for color matching.

ML Match Colors is also available in the Edit menu as Paste and ML Match Colors, letting users automatically color match any objects when pasting them into a new image. ML Match Colors has been trained on 20 million professional photographs and is powered by Core ML, delivering unmatched image analysis speed and performance.

Another headline feature in the update is the new Free Transform tool, which adds a number of different ways to transform objects, including the ability to skew, distort, and change the perspective of any layer. Along with perspective transformations, the Free Transform tool lets users resize individual layers using 3 specialized layer scaling algorithms – Bilinear, useful for photographic images, Lanczos, for images with small and intricate details, and Nearest Neighbor, which is most often used for pixel art.

Pixelmator Pro 1.3.4 is available today exclusively from the Mac App Store as a free update for existing users or for $39.99 (USD) for new customers.
