VRHopShop for iOS – Author VR Experiences from 360 Photos

PixelSplincher today is excited to announce the release of its new VR authoring app, VRHopShop 1.0, as well as its companion free viewer app, VRHopper. VRHopShop lets iPhone and iPad users compile a series of 360 degree spherical photos into immersive VR experiences, where the viewer “hops” from photo to photo by gazing at target areas specified by the author.

Experiences authored in VRHopShop can be viewed in VRHopper using any Google Cardboard-class headset for the iPhone, or on an iPhone or iPad in “magic window” mode, where moving the device around reveals the appropriate view into the 360 degree environment. Viewers can also pan around just by touching the screen. In addition to hops between photos, VRHopper targets can trigger sound effects or simple labels tied to parts of the 360 degree environment.

VRHopShop works with stereoscopic or mono 360 spherical images from the new generation of VR cameras like Ricoh Theta, Samsung Gear 360, Nokia Ozo, LG 360 Cam, 360Fly and many others. It can also be used with spherical renders from 3D software. VRHopShop opens the world of VR production to cost-conscious producers in fields from training and education to real estate to virtual tourism.

VRHopper can also directly load 360 degree images, and download virtual tours from Pixelsplincher’s rapidly growing collection of curated tours.
Both VRHopper and VRHopShop include a sample tour of acclaimed 3D artist Matt Borrett’s stunning virtual world, Hypernurnia.

VRHopShop 1.0 is $7.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies). VRHopper is free. Both are available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Photo & Video category.

Mocha VR Revolutionizes Post Workflows for Cinematic 360 degree/VR

Boris FX, in collaboration with Imagineer Systems, are pleased to announce the release and immediate availability of Mocha VR, a 360/VR effects and workflow plug-in for Adobe, Avid, and OFX hosts. Based on Imagineer’s Academy Award-winning planar tracking algorithm, Mocha VR is also the first plug-in to bring native 360 degree optimized planar tracking, masking, object removal, and horizon stabilization tools to host applications Adobe(R) Premiere Pro(R) CC, Adobe(R) After Effects(R) CC, Avid Media Composer(R), The Foundry’s NUKE(TM), and Blackmagic Design Fusion.

Mocha VR marks the first foray into the quickly expanding 360 degree filmmaking community by parent company Boris FX, the leading developers of creative VFX plug-ins including flagship products Boris Continuum, Mocha Pro, and recently acquired Sapphire.

“Emerging 360 degree/VR content creators want to produce Hollywood style visuals and use high-end finishing techniques to make their 360 degree videos more impactful,” says Ross Shain, chief marketing officer. “However, the equirectangular format brings technical challenges to the artists tasked with delivering high quality deliverables. Mocha VR introduces an efficient, time-saving post-stitch workflow for editors, compositors, and finishing artists. We are excited that Mocha’s famous planar tracking can now be used to fix many problems associated with 360 degree post, such as removing cameras and stabilizing aerial footage.”

“Avid is committed to working with third-parties to offer the most comprehensive tools and workflow solutions to create, distribute, and monetize media,” says Kate Ketcham, product manager, Avid. “Boris FX has extensive experience creating high-quality plug-ins for Avid Media Composer. The new Mocha VR AVX plug-in is notable for being the first third-party 360 degree video tool designed to support the Avid editing workflow.”

Early Mocha VR beta testers have reaped the benefits of the powerful new 360 degree/VR workflow.

“Before Mocha VR, we were using Mocha AE to rotoscope for rig removal in 360 degree video projects. With Mocha VR, it is so much easier to do this work!” says Daniel Rojas Roa, 3GO Video Time. “Saving time is a priority, so we are most excited about the horizon stabilization and object removal tools.”

“Mocha VR was crucial in executing the tracking and object removal on our 360 degree/VR degree action series ‘Augmented’,” states Blair Kelly, IGN.

Mocha VR Features:

* 360 degree Planar Tracking: Imagineer’s award-winning planar tracking solution now supports equirectangular footage delivering the world’s most robust 360 degree tracking solution for post-production.

* 360 degree Workspace: Optimized workspace and toolset works simultaneously in rectilinear and lat/long views bringing 360 degree capability to a variety of applications. Editors and artists can easily track, roto, create effects, and insert graphics without worrying about equirectangular seams or distorted pixels.

* 360 degree Masking Tools: Unlimited X-Spline tools for articulate shape creation and masking, saves hours of time versus traditional keyframing techniques. Roto-masks can be rendered back to host or exported to most editing and compositing systems.

* 360 degree Object Removal: Mocha’s famous Remove Module now works on 360 degree video by analyzing temporal frames and removing unwanted camera rigs, shadows, crew members, and more for massive time-savings.

* Horizon Stabilization & Reorient: Designed to reduce unstable motion, the new Reorient Module can drastically improve nausea-inducing VR experiences by smoothing or stabilizing shaky, handheld, and drone captured footage. Driven by robust planar tracking, a user can even track and stabilize difficult and out of focus footage.

* Lens Distort Workflow for 360 degree Compositing: Plug-in based lens correction workflow converts between lat/long and rectilinear for a simple workflow to add titles, graphics, patches, and non-360 enabled filters to your 360 project.

* Plug-in & Standalone Workflows: Running as a plug-in inside industry standard editing and effects applications Adobe Premiere Pro CC, After Effects CC, Avid Media Composer, and NUKE provides an immediate and accessible workflow for 360 degree/VR post tasks. Render finished shots to your timeline OR export tracking and roto data in a variety of formats for flexibility and project sharing.

Review: Flutterbud – Video Messaging Made Easy

There are plenty of video messaging apps out there, so why create another one? That was my first thought when I was assigned a review of Flutterbud, a recently released video messaging app from developer Finderous. However, it turns out that this free app has a few tricks up its sleeve that makes it worth a download.

Overview

Flutterbud: Relationship App is the somewhat misnamed, but entertaining video messaging that allows users to send pre-recorded video messages to other users. We’ve seen that before, right? Well, how about an app that allows you to record a video and send it to your friends and family, but you control when they can see it.

Review: Flutterbud - Video Messaging Made Easy

Flutterbud is easy to use from the word go. It offers a simple setup, and using the app is just dirt simple. If you can use an iPhone, you’re more than pre-qualified to use this app.

When running Flutterbud the first time, you’re asked to setup an account. The account is free. (You can also connect the account to your Facebook account.) Then, you’ll want to invite friends and family to download the app and join, so they can see the video.

The fun begins when you record your first video and send it to friends and family. (Make sure to hold your finger down on the record button, or you’ll end up with just a snapshot.)  Sure, you can do that using the built-in Messages app on your iPhone, but you have to send it manually when you want the recipient to see it.  With Flutterbud, you record your video, and then you can decide when other users will see your video.

You can select to allow recipients to view your video immediately, or conveniently select a date using the built-in date picker to allow your audience to view the video anywhere from a few minutes to months into the future. Your recipients will see that they’ve received a new video, but the app won’t let them see it until the date and time you specify.

The app also notifies the send when a recipient has viewed their video. It even send a nice notification to Apple Watch users, as seen below.

Review: Flutterbud - Video Messaging Made Easy

The feature is great for building up suspense and anticipation on the part of your audience. The uses for the feature are many. You could make a family announcement via Flutterbud, ensuring everyone will see the message at the same time. You could also send a holiday greeting for Birthdays or Valentine’s Day.  It would be a great way to have fun by staying in touch with loved one’s your far away from.

My wife and I played with the app, and thought it was great fun. You can leave delayed messages for each other, which the recipient can only view at a specific time. Makes the day a bit brighter when you anticipate viewing a video you can only view at a special time.

Verdict

Flutterbud is an easy to use and fun app. Creating quick messages and scheduling for a viewing time in the near (or far) future is a great idea. I can see families and friends using the app to have fun by staying in touch over the Internet via special little videos scheduled for meaningful times. Sure, Flutterbud is a one trick pony, but it’s a really entertaining trick.

Flutterbud Inc. today is proud to announce the release of Flutterbud 1.0.2, the company’s new video recording app developed exclusively for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. Flutterbud provides the users a unique way to record and share videos – precisely when they want to. Free to use and download, Flutterbud enables people to record a video and schedule a ‘showtime.’ The video can only be viewed after the time set by the user. This makes it perfect for sending messages, reminders, specific content, or sharing a special announcement.

Suggested uses include:
* Presenting a personal TV channel
* Travel vlogs
* Gaming vlogs sharing tips and tricks
* Activity or personal family updates for friends and relatives

* Making a special announcement

“Since videos can be made in advance and scheduled for a specific time, it is the ideal way to record and send birthday, anniversary, or other good wishes,” said the app’s designer, entrepreneur Vikrant Ramteke. “The options are limited only by your imagination and creativity.” The founders of Flutterbud are serial entrepreneurs and their company, Totspot, which sold fashion for kids and families, was recently acquired by Poshmark.

To use Flutterbud, users simply create an account. They can then choose to import personal contacts from their mobile device or invite specific connections or contacts to join their video shows or enjoy Flutterbud’s services along with them. When a video is made, the user creates their very own ‘showtime’ for friends and family and the video can only be viewed by the contact or contacts which are specified by the user.

CollabraCam Update Biggest Yet – EDL, Single Source Audio and More

Apptopus, Inc. is proud to announce the availability of CollabraCam 3.0 on the App Store. CollabraCam captures video different… this is the update everyone has been waiting for. Now all cameras record the entire session while an Edit Decision List (EDL) is created during the live edit to record in and out points. This change also paved the way for Single Source Audio, which utilizes audio from Camera 1 for the entire session.

CollabraCam_screen

The camera has also been improved to increase performance and enhance the user experience… Video Stabilization (for supported devices), Focus and Exposure Lock, Thirds Grid, Zoom and iPhone 7 Plus Dual Camera support. Most importantly, transfer time has been reduced yet again, so you can wrap and review quicker.

Whether you want to cover all the bases at the little league game, produce a You Tube talk show, create a hyperlocal newscast, shoot a music video, capture footage for interview-style documentary, or help students learn cinematography… CollabraCam makes all of this possible by putting a live multicam production studio in the palm of your hands.

You are the director and your friends are your camera crew. From an iPad you can edit live from up to six iOS cameras streaming over Wi-Fi. Send action cues and direct your camera ops to get the best shots from every angle. When you call it a wrap, the video and audio is collected and the Director’s Cut is assembled, so you can watch or share your movie, minutes after it’s shot.

CollabraCam doesn’t use your data plan, so you can use Personal HotSpot to create a local Wi-Fi network and CollabraCam on the go. You can also use a wireless router on location, absolutely no need for an internet connection, plug it in and you’re ready to go… or create an ad hoc network with a MacBook Pro.

Review the Director’s Cut in the app or export to the Photos app and share from there. Once exported, iCloud Photo Library can automatically upload to iCloud, then you can download with the Photos app on your Mac. Export video clips from the Director’s Cut to Photos and assemble in iMovie for iOS, then add your titles and transitions… or save the EDL, video and audio to your Mac and import into Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017. After import, the Director’s Cut is loaded to Premiere Pro’s timeline, ready for post. You can also import just the video and audio and re-edit with Premiere Pro’s multi-camera editing interface with the Program Monitor.

The CollabraCam User Guide has also been updated to reflect the changes in CollabraCam 3.0. The CollabraCam User Guide was created to help new users learn how to use the app, from start to finish. It’s also great for educators and teachers to help students understand CollabraCam’s easy-to-use, live multicam editing and on-the-fly directing workflow.

CollabraCam 3.0 is $5.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Photo & Video category. CollabraCam participates in the iTunes Volume Purchase Program for Education. The Volume Purchase Program for Education lets educators purchase world-class apps, like CollabraCam, at a 50% discount when purchasing quantities of 20 or more. Purchase in volume and tap into immediate benefits for your entire institution.
