NeoFinder Mac 7.3 – Gallery View, Display Filters, Email Cataloging

Norbert M. Doerner today released NeoFinder 7.3, the third major update for NeoFinder 7. The new version adds more than 60 new features and enhancements, and is the most massive new version 7.x yet. The Gallery View shows photos in beautiful size, while keeping a list of the other items in the folder underneath it for navigation. The Display Filter allows to see only files of a certain kind, or name, label, or rating. Based on a lot of on-site feedback from clients, things like the cataloging of email contents have been added, or the search for duplicate folders.

NeoFinder Mac 7.3 - Gallery View, Display Filters, Email Cataloging

New features and enhancements of NeoFinder 7.3:
* NeoFinder now has a Display Filter that you can use to filter items based on their kind, name, rating, label, or other attributes! That is highly useful when working with large amounts of data, and works in all five view types!
* NeoFinder now has a cool Gallery View! Not just in macOS Mojavo, like Apples Finder, but in all Mac OS X and macOS versions since 10.7!
* You can now update one or multiple media files in an existing catalog!

* The XMP Editor in the Inspector now has a new Date editor, so you can change the XMP date for one or multiple items at once
* The XMP Presets Editor now has a date field as well
* NeoFinder can now of course catalog that XMP date field from existing files
* A new Filefinder Text Importer allows you to import the text files from that abandoned old disk cataloger
* You can now copy and paste GPS coordinates, and the XMP locations fields, separately
* You can now sort the catalog LIBRARY by Volume Modification Date as well
* The Movie Contact Sheet now has an option to turn off the time display in the thumbnails

* Ejecting volumes now runs in the background, and won’t block NeoFinder anymore
* You can now double click one or multiple keywords in the Controlled Vocabulary list to add these to the one selected file
* You can now remove files and folders from the Found Items list, to generate better reports
* The number of items of albums is now displayed in green
* Exporting a file using the Item menu will now also copy a possible sidecar XMP file to the target location
* The Web Gallery now adds the media info to its Details page
* The Web Gallery uses a lot less memory while generating the HTML pages for you
* The folder list in the Batch Cataloging window is now always hierarchically sorted by name, even if your NeoFinder database is placed on a APFS volume

* Many little improvements and fixes
* Please note: This will be the last NeoFinder version to support Mac OS X 10.7. If you still use that old Mac OS X, please check this NeoFinder version very carefully, and if anything doesn’t work for you, please let us know immediately!

NeoFinder Highlights:
* Cataloging – NeoFinder catalogs metadata of songs, movies, fonts, and photos, including the MP3-Tags of several audio file formats, EXIF, GPS, and IPTC data of photos. NeoFinder also edits Adobe XMP data, including keywords. All these are arranged clearly in the user interface, and can be extensively searched. For numerous photo and video formats, fonts, text files, and even audio files, NeoFinder generates thumbnails during cataloging, displaying them in all list and icon views.

* Managing Metadata – The built-in XMP metadata editor with presets can edit and add keywords, ratings, descriptions, copyright information, and more to photos and videos.

* Networking – Store your catalog database on a server for access from all Macs in the network, and with the sidekick product abeMeda (was CDWinder for Windows) even from Microsoft Windows.

* Mobile – Keep your NeoFinder database with you on your iPhone or iPad with the separate NeoFinder for iOS app.

* Integration – Offering a tight connection to major productivity tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Roxio Toast, FileMaker Pro, Apples Spotlight and Finder, and the extensive support of drag&drop into other applications, NeoFinder can support many workflow scenarios. The AppleScript support in NeoFinder allows custom integrations of all kinds.

* Geotagging – Only NeoFinder offers the integrated GeoFinder, which searches for photos taken near a spot, or the KMZ export for coordinates and photo thumbnails as a way to give geolocated photos to friends. NeoFinder can even geotag photos itself, no other software needed. And only NeoFinder displays important facts about any geolocation in the truly unique Wikipedia Inspector.

* Since the initial release of CDFinder 1.0 in 1996, more than 85,000 customers in 101 countries around the world are using CDFinder and now NeoFinder to organize their digital library, and manage their data archive and backups, including NASA, IKEA, BBC, Mattel, Rand McNally, Pfizer, Random House, Oracle, and Warner Bros.

Keep It 1.4 Adds Markdown Editing, Encrypted Items, and More

Reinvented Software is pleased to announce Keep It 1.4 is available today. This version adds Markdown editing and previewing, encrypted items, and word counts for notes and other editable text documents. The Mac version also gains the ability to open anything in a window, show margins for any editable text document opened in its own window, and navigate the history of viewed items.

Keep It is a notebook, scrapbook and organizer, ideal for writing notes, saving web links, organizing documents, and finding them again. Available on Mac, iPad and iPhone, Keep It is the destination for all those things you want to put somewhere, confident you will find them again later. Keep It is the successor to Together, a brand new app that preserves the very best of its predecessor, but recast for today and the future.

Keep It 1.4 has a dedicated Markdown editor on both Mac and iOS. This includes syntax highlighting, editing assistance for things such as headings, emphasis, links, images and lists, and a choice of styles for both editor and preview.

Individual items can now be encrypted with a password, and temporarily viewed with that password, Face ID or Touch ID (including on MacBook Pro with Touch Bar). Encrypted files in Keep It are Zip files that use AES-256 encryption and can also be opened in apps that support that format.

In Keep It 1.4 for Mac anything can now be opened in its own window (or tab), and for editable text documents opened in their own windows, Keep It can now show margins to constrain the width of the text to aid readability. Keep It can also show a word count and other statistics such as the number of characters, sentences and paragraphs in notes and rich text files in the format bar on Mac (needs High Sierra or later), or below the text on iPad and iPhone.

Keep It 1.4 also includes navigation history to move back and forth between viewed items on Mac, improved previews for video and audio files, improvements when importing mail messages, the ability to copy clickable links to lists, and many other improvements.

About Keep It:
Pretty much anything can be added to Keep It, including notes, web links, Markdown, rich and plain text documents, PDFs, images, or any other kind of file, using drag and drop, its share extension, the Services menu, or a browser bookmarklet. Keep It can also create new files of any type from stationery, and uses iCloud to make everything available across your devices and to share folders and items with others.

Keep It has all the organization tools you could need, including folders, tags, colored labels, and bundles. Keep It stores everything you add as files in folders that you can access in the Finder on Mac or the Files app on iOS 11, and open in other apps for editing. Saving files to these folders will automatically add them.

Building on Together, just about everything in Keep It has been improved or streamlined to work consistently across Mac and iOS, while taking advantage of each platform’s unique strengths. Keep It’s innovative tag filter that can drill down through combinations of related tags, and works in conjunction with search, which offers suggestions and makes it easy to combine terms. Keep It for Mac’s Compact Mode reduces the app to a single column, ideal for using as a floating window, or alongside another full screen app in split view, as you would on iPad.

Pricing and Availability:
Keep It for Mac 1.4 requires macOS 10.12 Sierra or later, and is available as a free 15-day trial. A license for Keep It for Mac costs $49.99 (USD), and will include all Keep It Version 1.x updates. Together 3 users can purchase a $24.99 upgrade, or get a free copy if Together 3 was purchased during its final 6 months on sale. Keep It is also available on the Mac App Store, also with a free trial, and a choice of one-time purchases to buy Keep It, upgrade from Together, along with monthly ($2.49) or yearly ($19.99) subscriptions. Keep It for iPad and iPhone is available separately with either monthly ($1.49) or yearly ($9.99) subscriptions.

SpeakerCue Confidence Monitoring for the Professional Speaking Community

CampSoftware is excited to announce the release of SpeakerCue, a confidence monitor for professional producers and presenters. This handy communications tool is a simple, streamlined way for a presenter or speaker to monitor their time and for an assistant or producer to provide them with invaluable information. SpeakerCue requirements are simple; a Mac or PC for the person who is controlling the time and messaging, and an external display within view of the speaker to receive those messages.

“SpeakerCue is the only full-featured program countdown clock that integrates the ability to easily communicate with your speaker or moderator while they’re on stage,” said Bill Chapman, Executive Director/Producer at The Richmond Forum, America’s largest non-profit public lecture series. “We’ve used SpeakerCue for speeches by President Barack Obama, actress Glenn Close, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power, and others. Now, I would never consider producing a program without it.”

The most important feature of SpeakerCue is that it provides a configurable clock, customizable in a variety of color and display options. The clock can be configured in hour/minutes or hour/minutes/seconds mode in the current time or as a countdown clock. Based on preference, it can also be set to flash or change color at a pre-set time to inform the speaker to start wrapping up their presentation or at other prearranged times.

SpeakerCue also features a one-way message transmitter that will allow an advisor to give speakers of all skill levels the instructions they need to make their presentations better in real time. SpeakerCue is an excellent way for a teacher to send basic instructions to a beginner speaker such as “Speak louder,” “Slow down,” “Look up,” or “Smile.” Seasoned professional producers can send their speaker more advanced cues such as, “Expand on that point,” “Last question,” or “Introduce the next speaker.”

Computer Requirements:
* Mac running OS 10.9.5 (Mavericks) or later
* Windows running Windows 7, SP1 Platform Update (64-bit versions only) or later
* Also runs on Linux and Raspberry Pi

Visit SpeakerCue online to download a free demo. In demo mode, SpeakerCue will auto-quit after 10 minutes, but it can be relaunched as often as you would like. For more information, please contact Ardith Gumbert.

Typinator 7.6 is Getting Ready for Mojave and Offers UI Enhancements

Ergonis Software today announced Typinator 7.6, a great new release of their highly acclaimed text expander. Since day one, Ergonis Software has been committed to provide high-quality macOS products that “just work.” To achieve this goal, Ergonis Software puts a lot of effort into their products behind the scenes to make them do their job flawlessly, fast, and unobtrusively. It is therefore no surprise that Ergonis already released an updated version of Typinator that is preparing for compatibility with Mojave – only a few days after Mojave was officially announced by Apple at WWDC18. While there are still some months to come before Mojave will be finally released by Apple, Ergonis is already busy updating their entire product line to offer compatible versions of all their macOS products when the official release of Mojave arrives.

In particular, Typinator contains built-in helper applications that have now been updated to 64-bit, which is required on Mojave. Furthermore, Typinator 7.6 allows to suppress update checks in full-screen mode, which prevents update messages that kick in during presentations with Keynote, PowerPoint, etc. With many further usability, stability, and compatibility improvements, Typinator 7.6 is a highly recommended upgrade for every Typinator user. Visit Ergonis Software’s website to learn more about the changes in this release and to download and try the new version.

Typinator is a powerful, yet elegantly simple solution that boosts your productivity by automating the process of inserting frequently used text and auto-correcting typing errors. Across all applications, it detects specific sequences of typed characters and automatically replaces them with text snippets, graphics, URLs, dates and special characters.

Typinator can be purchased securely on the Ergonis Software website. The upgrade to Typinator 7.6 is free for Typinator 7 license owners and for anyone who purchased a license for Typinator 6 in or after January 2016. Upgrade paths are available for owners of older licenses. For information about purchases, including enterprise licenses, volume discounts, and upgrade pricing offers, see the company’s web site.

DriveDx 1.8.0 for Mac Protects Users from Data Loss and Downtime

BinaryFruit today is pleased to announce the release and immediate availability of DriveDx 1.8.0, its latest solution for SSD and HDD health diagnostics and monitoring. As macOS does not have a comprehensive drive health indicator, DriveDx fills a critical role in measuring the overall health of both SSD and HDD drives. Because DriveDx tracks more indicators of impending failure than any other product on the market, users will get an advanced warning before their drives fail. This will allow them to take action to avert the failure and save themselves from resulting data loss and downtime.

Unlike many other drive health diagnostics utilities that simply check built-in S.M.A.R.T. status, DriveDx performs overall drive health diagnostics using drive health indicators (like SSD wear out / endurance, reallocated bad sectors, offline bad sectors, pending sectors, I/O errors, and more) that most closely correlate with drive failures according to the statistics reported in the latest researches focused on identifying drive failure trends. This gives a user a comprehensive picture of a current drive health status and enables foreseeing potential problems with drive failure and loss of sensitive data. Moreover, DriveDx shows this information on a user-friendly Mac-style interface in an easy-to-understand format.

“Here’s a DriveDx triumph. DriveDx showed my just out of AppleCare iMac with two pre-fail conditions for the hard drive. Made appointment and took it to Genius Bar yesterday. Tech looked at DriveDx and was very impressed. Even though out of warranty – they replaced the drive without question,” said Michael Sidoric, CapMac User Group Treasurer, ex-Vice President of CapMac.org. “God knows how many dollars and troubles DriveDx saved me since I had several vital FinalCut projects on it.”

DriveDx is a combined drive health analysis and forecasting tool. It monitors and analyzes changes to S.M.A.R.T. attributes in order to continuously evaluate drive health status and predict drive failures. In addition to “Failed” and “OK” drive statutes DriveDx supports “Warning” and “Failing” statuses indicating that a drive is in a pre-failure status and backup of sensitive data is highly recommended.

DriveDx performs both SSD and HDD health diagnostics. Moreover, it uses a separate set of indicators for SSD and HDD to monitor drive health status. This is particularly important as SSD works different from HDD, and requires a different algorithm to check its health status. Also, SSDs typically are more dependent on firmware than HDDs, and DriveDx has been programmed to support many versions of firmware (please see our website for a complete list of supported firmware).

DriveDx allows configuring the delivery of customized drive status and free space reports by e-mail and therefore does not require user presence to inform about drive status changes. In addition, DriveDx can launch built-in drive diagnostics self-tests. Drive self-tests will help to quickly identify if the drive is faulty.

DriveDx is the first utility of its kind to have a real user-friendly Mac-style interface. It is organized in a way that allows a user to view and understand drive status and its performance at a glance. User can switch between different view modes to drill up or down data related to drive health, including S.M.A.R.T. indicators and attributes, drive statistics and errors.

What’s New in DriveDx 1.8.0:
* Added support of 110 new SSD models (from Apple, Samsung, Crucial/Micron, Toshiba, SanDisk, Intel, WD, SK Hynix, Plextor, Corsair, OCZ, Transcend, Kingston, ADATA, etc)
* Improved SSD and HDD health diagnostic algorithms and heuristics
* Improved drive temperature monitoring
* Improved SSD and HDD health indicator descriptions
* Improved support of Apple SSDs
* Improved support of Seagate HDDs
* Improved support of OWC SSDs,
* Many stability improvements
* Many cosmetics tweaks and fixes

DriveDx feature highlights:
* Support of modern SSDs and HDDs
* SSD lifetime left indicator
* Different routines for SSD and HDD health evaluation and diagnostics
* Real-time SSD & HDD health status monitoring
* User-friendly and intuitive UI
* Multi-tier warning system that will inform the user about deviations from the normal state of drive attributes
* Diagnostic Knowledge Base online auto-updating
* Drive overall health rating
* Drive overall performance rating (if drive supports this subset of indicators)
* Device statistics
* I/O errors monitoring
* Drive free space monitoring
* Support of drive short and full (extended) self-tests
* Sending a warning whenever a problem with a drive firmware exists
* Saving detailed drive status reports to a file
* Warning a user with pop-up notifications about errors and failures
* Displaying drive status on a macOS status bar
* Runs natively on macOS

DriveDx 1.8.0 has 4 types of licenses that are currently being offered on promotion:

* Personal License – $19.99 (USD)
* Family License – $39.99
* Business License – starting from $99.99
